Fixed, Crashed and Fixed Again – Åsa, Sweden

At some point I discovered some small cracks in my two year old Ibis frame. I thought it was just in the coating but figured I’d better ask Ibis about their opinion. They swiftly got back saying that they were sorry and would replace it. Quite impressive. The color would be different though.

At the same time I also got a replacement of the X2 shock approved on warranty due to oil leakage  – basically since start. Now Fox had finally fixed the root cause and I would get the new 2024 model at the cost of a service, which was anyway needed.

In the midst of the mess of a cracked frame and having to send in the shock I actually felt a bit happy that I would get the two year old bike renovated.

New frame arrival

Not feeling totally ok with the color yet but a nice tight feeling with new bearings and bushings in the linkage. Shock hasn’t arrived yet so starting off with a borrowed Öhlins shock that I’ve tried before.

Finally the shock and new stickers for the fork have arrived and by now I start to really like the color. Fantastic feeling on the bike. Perfect is a strong word. But yes. It is perfect now.

Time to get it dirty for real

I get to ride it for 5 weeks and it’s over. I get my right foot tangled in some branch and go OTB. The bike continues to the left and basically lands with the head tube straight onto a big rock. That sound… Carbon – new carbon – cracking is something I don’t want to hear again.

The f***ing rock:

And the frame:

The dropper is all scratched also…

After calming down, contacting the insurance company, Ibis and workshop I’m back in business. Front triangle replaced and got myself a new 240mm OneUp dropper.

Stealth mode in the green 😊
