First Time On a Gravel Bike – Tallinn, Estonia

Embarrassingly late. I know. But finally, I’ve now tried out the Gravel Bike concept in a couple of rides around Tallinn, Estonia. And yes, I understand why they are so popular 😊

Both rides where around 50km. First one going south and covering more single tracks than the second ride.

I was blown away with how fast it is when hitting the first single track I could find. Let me say first that Tallinn is flat as a pancake, except for the hill that constitutes the old town. So, on most trails you will not hit speeds or technical obstacles that you can’t handle with the gravel bike. Well… Some root sections are a bit hard without suspension, but still… It’s flat and no rock gardens.

I just keep going and in some areas that look hard the bike is still the right tool. It’s with a big smile that I enter the old town again after some 2,5 hours of fun.

Next ride is a couple of week later, but with the same nice weather

This time I aim for less trails and want to explore the Viimsi peninsula.

Again, it’s a pleasure with a bit more relaxed position and softer ground contact. More asphalt this time, but still quite some dirt sections too.
