From downtown Riga it’s just 30 minutes by car to an absolutely amazing network of trails right next to the Baltic Sea. The dunes are rolling along the coast. It’s a Roller coaster. 😊
The rolling dunes are approximately up to 30 meters above sea level and covered with pine trees. The base is sand but there’s a thin layer of organic material sprinkled with pine needles that makes the trails smooth, fast, flowy and quite grippy. It’s just so motivating on the meandering trails up and down the dunes, and on the ridges, that you can’t stop pedaling. At times there are sections of roots and fast downhills all the way down to sea level. Welcome to a Heaven of trails!
I keep going all the way Northeast to the village of Carnicava where there is a nice restaurant – Maza upe – offering well deserved calories.
When going back I start out on the beach. The sand is compact and totally bikeable. But after some 100 meters on the beach I get back to the roller coaster. What a blast!
